Our founder, Bjorn Simundson invented, designed, fabricated, installed and commissioned the prototype “Self-Filling Water Bottle Refill Station” on San Nicolas Island, CA on April 11, 2025 to alleviate maximum water stress experienced by the endangered species ecologial habitat restoration team operating on the island. ![DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CENTER PORT HUENEME DIVISION 4363 MISSILE WAY PORT HUENEME, CA 93043 24 JULY 2024 From: Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Port Hueneme Division (PHD), Office of Technology (00T) To: Bjorn Simundson, Atmosphereh2o Subj: INITIAL FEEDBACK FROM FIELD EXPERIMENTATION OF ATMOSPHEREH2O ATMOSPHERIC WATER HARVESTER AT NAVAL BASE VENTURA COUNTY-SAN NICOLAS ISLAND Mr. Simundson, I am writing to share positive feedback we have received for field experiments your project team has been conducting this summer at NBVC-San Nicolas Island (SNI). "After seeing a demonstration at ANTX [Coastal Trident] 2024, I saw an opportunity to potentially save [Commander, Naval Installations Command] CNIC millions of utility sustainment money by using AtmosphereH2O machines to produce water where our Sailors live and work instead of replacing 4 miles of old and rusty pipes which would take a few years to obtain funding and then replace. While the water remains potable, the visual clarity suffers from the current condition of the pipes. "However, before we explored purchasing a water harvester, I wanted bring the machines out to the island for a technical demonstration. We started with a demo in the Fathomwerx building where it produced 5 gallons every 24 hours under less than ideal conditions (temperature fluctuated between 67-71F). Then, at the island we placed the 100 [pints per day] in the [Navy Gateway Inn and Suites] NGIS lounge as that is one area that receives high foot traffic and the 500 [pints per day] in a hangar supporting a critical defense partner. The 500 immediately replaced shipping 18x 5 gallon containers to the island. At a cost of roughly $3,500 per cargo flight, that expense adds up. "To quantify water quality in numbers — typical residential drinking water is limited to 500 parts per million (ppm) in Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Drinking water that exceeds this measure is typically considered unsafe. Drinking water from a sample fountain at the commercial Port of Hueneme [where Fathomwerx is located] was 350 ppm. water from the Atmosphere H2O machines tested at 5ppm. 5! And the 5 is from the re-calcifier that is added after the water is produced. "SNI does have a reverse osmosis plant that provides island water but some buildings have less than ideal quality water and other locations have no existing utilities. The 500 is a great fit to harvest water into a 50 gallon barrel and transfer to a 25 gal tank that can be transported to the sites by pickup truck. "For NBVC, the benefit is infrastructure and transportation savings. While we would love to replace all of the pipes, we have a myriad of other failing infrastructure needs that must be addressed first. In the meantime, these machines can be used to produce water where the users work. "The best part of this story is the expected lives saved – Sailors and soldiers no longer need to be sent into harm’s way to deliver water into an active combat zone. With one of these machines in a vehicle or shipped in a case, you have water as long as you have power. "Speaking of design, the Atmosphere H2O 100 and 500 are masterpieces. The 100 is the size of a microwave and the 500 the size of a shopping cart. And the user interface? Intuitive doesn’t even begin to describe it. Even I could operate it with no explanation. There’s one button: on/off and that’s it, the machine does the rest. For maintenance, it needs a new filter every few months when it gets dusty and a new calcite filter once a year. The filter is readily available on Amazon and is proof that it not only gives you clear water out is cleaning the air you breathe at the same time. "Honestly, I could go on and on. The Atmosphere H2O 100 and 500 is more than just a machine; it's an investment in your time, your sanity, and your overall well-being of our warfighters."
